The idea behind THE ATOMIC ROOTS ORCHESTRA is to capture the raw, untamed sound of Post War Los Angeles Rhythm and Blues. While the Big City boys were moving west (T-Bone Walker, Big Joe Turner, Nat King Cole, etc.) a vibrant scene made up of Angelinos was beginning to sprout. Johnny Otis was soon to be the King of Central Avenue. The electric Blues sounds of Jimmy
Nolens and Pee Wee Crayton were making waves. Artists like The Valentinos, Richard Berry, The Jewels, The Penguins, Don & Dewey took over the airwaves and jukeboxes. These pioneers, and others, are the inspiration for the Atomic Roots Orchestra. Big Beat drums, stinging guitar, vocal harmonies; that’s what it’s about. Original,
improvisational, inspired.
Club rats
John Williamson and Job Striles make up the guitars and vocals
Peter Burke and Eddie Delugo on the drums and bass.
Make no mistake: this is not a nostalgia or Oldies but Goodies band. This is a modern Los Angeles Rhythm and Blues band.
